Extractions

Sometimes it is necessary to remove (or extract) teeth due to cavities, traumatic injury, gum disease or insufficient space.   There are multiple options for replacing extracted teeth.  In many instances, a dental implant can immediately be placed in the socket from which the tooth was removed so that you can continue to smile and chew with confidence. Other options to replace a missing tooth or teeth include a fixed bridge or removable partial dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are often the ideal way to replace missing teeth because they most closely mimic the form and function of natural teeth.   Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, to retain a bridge or secure a denture. We surgically place as well as restore dental implants at our Queen Creek dental office.

Gum and Bone Grafting

There is more to a great smile than just teeth.  Gums and the underlying jawbone are the framework that support and highlight your beautiful teeth.   Periodontitis (gum disease), traumatic injury and tooth extraction can all contribute the loss of jawbone and gum tissue.  Additionally, after many years of missing teeth, both the jawbone and gum tissue naturally recede, creating cosmetic and functional effects such as a shrunken midface or exposed tooth roots.

Gum tissue can be grafted to cover exposed tooth roots.  Gums can also be surgically reshaped to create a more esthetically pleasing smile.

Bone grafting can reverse the effects of bone loss after a tooth is removed. This is often done before dental implant procedures to ensure a solid foundation for your new tooth or implant supported denture.

Sinus Lifts

Your sinus cavity is close to your upper back teeth. When replacing these teeth with dental implants, the sinus occasionally needs to be lifted upward so that the implant can be anchored completely in bone. During a sinus lift, the membrane that lines the sinus cavity is gently elevated and bone is grafted underneath it to create a larger pocket of bone for the implant to be placed in.

Biopsy

Oral cancer screenings are a part of your routine preventive exams at Matheson Dentistry. If there are any suspicious sores, growths, or color changes in your mouth, a biopsy (or small piece of the lesion) can be removed and sent to a pathology lab for microscopic evaluation.

Frenectomy

A lingual frenectomy can help someone who has difficulty with speech because of being “tongue-tied.” Some people are born with the tip of their tongue connected to the front of their jawbone.  A frenectomy removes this excess tissue and allows them to speak and eat normally.

Tori Removal

Tori are outgrowths of bone from either the upper or lower jaw. Many people don’t even know they have them until they become large enough to entrap food underneath them. Denture wearers will also find them very annoying because they can become ulcerated from the denture rubbing on them. A simple, quick procedure can easily remove this annoyance.
